Rice with Sesame Seeds - Til Bhath

Serves: 4-6

Ingredients: 


  • 2 cups long grain rice 
  • 4 cups water 
  • 2 tbsp. light sesame oil 
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds 
  • 10 curry leaves 
  • 1 cup sesame seeds 
  • lemon juice to taste 
  • salt to taste


Method: 


  1. Boil water in a pan, add rice and salt to it.
  2. Cover with lid and cook on low heat for 20 minutes. 
  3. Turn off heat and leave while preparing seasoning. 
  4. Heat Sesame Oil in small saucepan and fry the mustard seeds and curry leaves until leaves are brown and Mustard Seeds pop. 
  5. Add the sesame seeds and keep stirring over medium heat until seeds turn golden brown.
  6. Pour the seasoning over rice and mix well.
  7. Add lemon juice to taste and serve along with vegetable curries or chutney.
