Dahi Vada | Curd Vada | Dahi Vada Recipe



Dahi Vada or Curd Vada is a very famous Indian dish popular in almost all parts of India. It is also a must to have dish in festivals like Holi. These are basically lentil dumplings soaked in whipped curd and enjoyed with tangy sweet chutney and sprinkled spices. Lets see how to make dahi vadas.

Preparation Time: 4 Hours
Cooking time : 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1  cup Urad daal
  • 2 cups whipped curd
  • 20 raisins
  • 2 tbsp. fried cumin powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 cup oil
  • ½ cup tamarind chutney
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 chilly
  • ½” ginger piece

Method:

  1. Soak the Urad daal in water for 3-4 hours. Then drain off the water.
  2. Add sugar , 1 tbsp. fried cumin powder to the curd and mix well.
  3. Grind together  chilly, ginger and urad daal and make a consistent thick paste. Add salt and mix.
  4. Heat oil in deep pan/kadhai.
  5. Take spoonful of urad dal paste in your hand , put 1-2 raisins at centre and close it inside.
  6. Put  them in hot oil gently. Put in batches depending upon size of kadhai.
  7. Fry vadas turning both sides till they turn golden brown.
  8. Put the fried vadas into water for 2 minutes. They will absorb water and turn soft.
  9. Take out the vadas from water and pour into curd mixture and let it absorb the curd.
  10. Take out dahi vadas into serving plate. Add more curd and tamarind chutney. Sprinkle fried cumin powder and  chat masala over top.
