Kathal Ki Sabji | Jackfruit Vegetable | Jackfruit Curry Recipe


Here comes a very delicious recipes for vegeterians. Kathal or Jackfruit is also termed as Vegeterians Meat. This gravy is an extreme delight to tastebuds. This curry dish taste great with plane rice. This is a bit complex to make and requires some effort. Also the number of ingredients and steps involved are more.Lets see how to make Kathal or Jackfruit Curry.

Ingredients:

  • 1  medium size raw Jackfruit/ Kathal
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 3 tbsp. mustard oil
  • 5 garlic cloves, 1”ginger & 1 chilly
  • chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp. red chilly
  • 1 tbsp. cumin & coriander powder
  • 1 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp. garam masala
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tsp. panch phoron
  • Cinnamon stick
  • 1 bay leave
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 cardamoms
  • 4 Onions chopped
  • 5-6 potatoes boiled and peeled

Method:

  1. Cut the Kathal / Jackfruit into cubes discarding outer thick green shell. This is bit tough. Apply oils in your hand and it would require a sharp knife. Be careful.
  2. Boil the Kathal in pressure cooker for 1 whistle over medium flame. Drain the water. Cut the boiled potatoes into pieces.
  3. Grind together  green chilly, ginger and garlic and make a paste.
  4. Heat mustard oil in kadhai and put bay leaves , cinamon, cloves, cardamom and panch phoron to it.
  5. Put onions and mix. Cook for 2 minutes over low medium heat.
  6. Add the ginger, garlic & chilly paste. Mix and cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Add turmeric & salt.  Mix well and cook for 2 minutes over low heat.
  8. Add red chilly powder  & mix.
  9. Add cumin & coriander powder (Jeera & dhaniya powder) . Mix and cook for 2-3 minutes over low-medium heat.
  10. Add tomatoes and cook till it starts mixing with the onions.
  11. Add boiled potatoes. Stir gently and cook for 2 minutes.
  12. Add boiled kathal / jackfruit pieces. Mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  13. Add garam masala and mix well.
  14. At last add 2 cups of water and let the gravy simmer for 10 minutes covering kadhai with lid.
  15. Kathal Sabji / Jackfruit Curry is ready. Pour to serving bowl and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Enjoy with rice.
