Moong Dal Halwa | Moong Halwa Recipe

Moong Dal Halwa is a North Indian sweet. This is a bit tricky recipe and needs some perfection to make sure raw flavour of moong is not present. But at the same time when prepared with perfection tastes great and is really a mouth watering treat.

Ingredients:

  • Moong - 100 gm
  • Ghee - 100 gm
  • Mawa (Khoya) - 100 gm
  • Sugar - 150 gm
  • Cashew Nuts - 15 chopped into half
  • Dried Raisins - 20
  • Cardamom - 4 (Peeled and grinded)
  • Almonds - 10 (cut length wise)

Method:

  1. Wash the moong dal and soak it in water for 3 to 4 hours.
  2. Take out the moong dal from water and grind it without adding extra water. Don't grind it too fine.

  3. Heat the frying pan and put ghee in it.Keep 2 tbsp of ghee for later stage.
  4. Put grinded moong dal in the frying pan and start stirring with the frying spoon, on medium flame.

  5. By 18 to 20 minutes moong dal will be cooked properly and it doesn't stick to the frying pan. The ghee starts getting separated from moong dal

  6. Put 1 tbsp ghee in a separate frying pan and put Mawa (khoya) in it and cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes.

  7. Put the khoya in the moong dal and mix well.
  8. Put sugar and water in a utensil and heat it. When the water starts boiling cook for another 5 minutes on low flame.

  9. Mix the sugar syrup in the moong dal
  10. Add 6 almonds and all cashew nuts, raisins & grinded cardamom seeds. Now stir this halwa on low flame.
  11. In about 5 to 7 minutes halwa will be ready. Now turn off the burner.
  12. Put halwa in a serving bowl and garnish it with almonds and sprinkle 1 tsp ghee across halwa(optional).
Note: This halwa can be served hot also.It can be easily kept refrigerated for 3-4 days.
